9 Healthy Snacks For Work

healthy snacks for work

When you’re feeling hungry at work, you’re likely to do one of two things: continue to starve till you finally grab a bite later or make a run for that sugary delight that’s stocked up luxuriously at the local store. Both these ways to satiate your hunger are far from healthy. Waiting till later means you’ll overeat, and eating the more easily accessible sugary snacks means more unnecessary weight pile-up on the body. Needless to say, you should opt for healthy snacks. But not all healthy snacks can be brought to work. Here are 9 healthy snacks that you can stock up at work and munch on whenever hunger strikes.

1. Popcorn

Certainly not of the kind available at overpriced theaters around India, simple low-fat popcorn which is either made at home or bought from a local store can do the job. Popcorn is light and airy, and doesn’t pack much calories, yet makes you feel full.

2. Almonds

Almonds are rich in protein and contain healthy fats. They are also rich in fiber and contain as many as nine nutrients. As long as you snack on them lightly, almonds should be a terrific snack to keep in your office drawer.

3. Apple with Peanut Butter

If you haven’t tried this combination before, you’re in for a treat. A slice of apple dipped in peanut butter offers the richness of fiber contained in the apple and proteins and healthy fats from the peanut butter — a super healthy combination.

4. Fresh Fruits

Fresh fruits are easy to carry to work. Apples, oranges, and bananas are great since they pack a lot of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They also contain antioxidants that help you develop a stronger immune system. What’s more, they taste delicious!

5. Yogurt

Besides being a snack for when hunger strikes, yogurt can help improve your digestion, thanks to the “good bacteria” they contain. They pack protein, vitamins, calcium, potassium, and magnesium, and are good for summers especially.

6. Hard-boiled Eggs

You can either hard-boil the eggs at home in the night and carry then to the office or make it yourself in your office kitchen. The lean protein contained in the eggs will keep you full for a long time and won’t pile on extra calories in your body.

7. Protein Bars

Take a trip to the local supermarket and you’re likely to find protein bars stacked up on shelves. Go ahead and pick one with fruit and nuts, and which are relatively low in sugar and high in protein and fiber. Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose.

8. Cereal

A fiber-rich whole grain cereal will hold you in good stead on any given day. It’s light on your stomach and will make you feel full for quite a while. Remember this while buying it: the cereal should be low in sugar and high in protein to be effective.

9. Dark Chocolate

Not all healthy snacks have to be fruits and veggies. Dark chocolate is yummy. While you might think that it needn’t do much more, it helps lower blood pressure and and improve mood. But make sure you don’t overindulge. Keep the intake in check.
