The year 2019 witnessed some of the boldest and most creative trends in fashion. From animal prints to pastel tones, the year saw everything and anything coming to life. Originality and Innovation were the keywords in the fashion world, sustainable fashion or slow fashion captured many eyes and interest. Here are some of the fashion highlights from the year passing by.
Khadi is the new Couture
One of the biggest re-discovery of the year was Khadi, a heritage fabric. The fabric made its mark yet again and wowed the fashion world with its appearance from rough spun to the finest mulmul. The fabric was celebrated by various designers and fashion houses. W also launched its full-fledged Harit Khadi collection the passing year.
Sustainability
Sustainability as a trend caught attention of various designers and celebrities in the fashion circle, nationally as well as globally. The percentage of eco-friendly and recycled fibres & fabrics in retail brands went up significantly as consumers demanded more sustainable lifestyle choices. Various home-grown brands also followed the trend, making it viral.
W has also joined hands with Aditya Birla Group to launch an eco-friendly range of styles, made using Livaeco. It is a fibre that reduces carbon footprints and has fastest biodegradability.
Shrunken Bags
Accessories define the outfit and handbags are one important part of it. Unlike last year where large bags were ‘It’, this year witnessed the arrival of shrunken bags, which can fit no more than a phone and lipstick. Its size is what sets it apart from the rest and yet it is enough to make a strong statement. The bags made appearance from AMA awards to Indian fashion scene and were one of the most trending topics of the year.
Functional Garments
While the year 2018 saw trend of reversible clothing, 2019 stepped up and focused on garments which were functional rather than couture. Features such as adjustable trouser length, hidden and roomy pockets, adjustable slit in dresses and anti-stain, anti-wrinkle and easy care garments were the norm.
Pastel Perfect
The year was ruled by sophisticated pastels or neutral pastels like pale pink, ivories, ecru and silvers, and greys and champagnes. Styling a range of shades from the lavender family, fashionistas showed that light purple is seriously stylish. Whether worn in the form of boots, dresses, coats or even head-to-toe ensembles, the flattering and feminine color added a lovely touch to looks.
Bike Shorts with Blazers
Athleisure was another trend that stole the limelight this year. The bike shorts were worn with blazers by many style-savvy show-goers. Offering a fresh blend of sportswear and tailoring, the look was both striking and chic.
